We missed it. It was our first time in 12 years that we set the alarm clock to get up for work and we both slept through it. The alarm had been on for 15 minutes as I hear a faint noise as it’s turning itself off. It was 4:45am and I jumped out of bed and darted to the shower to get ready for our meeting, we were already late.

My husband not as excited as me lingered in bed longer and it was more of a procedure to get him moving. We get ourselves out of the house and its 5:30am. Not a car on the road. The ride was easy. We breeze into Manhattan from NJ in an hours’ time which in the past has proved to be two or more on a good day. While driving he’s not doing ‘happy’, I probe for the problem but he just grumbles. I tell him to ‘snap out of it’ and he continues to snarl. He says I’m not a fan of getting up this early. I tell him this is called work. This is what most people do everyday.

He had forgotten what that felt like because we had built a business that continues to support us every day whether we work or not. Today was different for me. We were getting up to share something that is very dear to my heart and that is helping women. You see I spent the better part of my life very successful in most peoples terms, worked in high level corporate positions, owned my own businesses and made a lot of money, but I wasn’t successful in the area that was most important. I wasn’t happy. No one told me money wouldn’t make you happy, but I thought it would. Money just makes you more of what you are and I was depressed and spent my down time sabotaging myself. It has been twenty years since I have felt that way but I found there are still a lot of women out there that do. No matter how successful they are they still feel they are not enough.  I feel it is my responsibility to help them live an authentic life that is happy, healthy and free and I was invited to meet this special group this morning and I was ready to go to work.

We get to our meeting and there are 85 -100 excited smiling business people ready to meet and greet. Where did we end up? Do these people really do this every week? Get up at the crack of dawn and make their way to networking meetings to meet other people that are happy that their there. Well it’s true, they do. We were amazed at what happens while others are sleeping including ourselves. I get to share my message and find other women coming up to me saying they know someone that needs my help. Music to my ears. I now have a hundred trusted souls on the look out for women who need and want help.

How much business is happening while you are sleeping? It time you woke up to the possibilities and help more people with your service. Sometimes we tell ourselves there are no people out there to help.

We just need to get out, literally of our homes, office and our own way.

5 Ways To Feel As FAB At Home As You Do At Work

“Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! It’s a bird, it’s a plane” no it’s SUPER WOMEN! Do you ever feel like that at work? Like you can do anything. You are invincible. You put on your cape and make everything happen. You are FAB!!!

Then you go home and want to take the cape off but as soon as you open the door you feel a swoosh of a whirlwind that requires even more of your super powers. But you find the cape doesn’t have the same powers at home as it did at work. At work it lets you leap tall buildings, but at home you trip on everything in sight. What happened to the cape?

Ever wonder how to transport those powers to your home life. It seems that we are all looking for some form of balance and for women this is a tall order. So many stereotypes still existing how we need to be successful and manage a home. It makes me want to break out into the lyrics to the Enjoli commercials from years back.

“I can bring home the Bacon! Fry it up in a Pan! And Never, Never, Never let you forget You’re a Man!  ‘Cause I’m a Woman!”  This is totally unnecessary today. Women revolt now!

What if we didn’t have to do it all. What if we learned how to just do our best and delegate the rest.  After years of trying to live up to everyone’s standard of what I should be doing, countless hospitalizations, high blood pressure, bouts of depression I knew there had to be a better way. I deliberated for years how to be super women at work and home and realized eventually that I could turn in my super women attire and just be me. How freeing that day was and is today.

5 Ways To Feel As FAB At Home As You Do At Work

1. Take off the cape. You do not have to be super women all the time. She runs out of steam and is no good to anyone including herself when she does that. Figure out what you want to do and what you can delegate. Super women in her cape doesn’t know how to do this because she thinks she needs to do it all on her own but YOU know that you are already FABulous even if you aren’t the one that does the laundry, folds the clothes or cleans the house. DELEGATE!

2. Recharge your battery. We all need to recharge and regenerate ourselves so we can come back even stronger. Running yourself down will only result in poor performance, miscommunication at work and at home.  I remember getting so run down that I would be snapping at everyone around me. All I had to do was learn to take 15 minute power naps and life got better for everyone around me.

3. Ask for help. Super women never knew how to ask for help but since you don’t need to be her any more you can. I remember the days when I was able to be home and my husband was working and I didn’t mind doing everything around the house, but then I went back to work. I found myself working outside the house and coming home to do the same. My day never ended and his did. This didn’t last long, I learned to ask for help. We are a family unit and we all are capable of pitching in and helping around the house.

4. Avoid distractions and prioritize. It’s easy to give yourself a “to-do list” and not do anything. Find yourself on the phone, getting caught up in social media or watching television all the time stressing over what you need to do and not doing. Instead prioritize get the things done that need to be and then take time for you. You will find you have more time than you ever imagined when you aren’t wasting it thinking versus doing.

5. Make a happy home your priority. Years from now your family will not remember whether the laundry was done, the floors were washed or the beds were made. They will remember though how you made them feel. Make being happy a priority for you and for them. Take time to give and receive hugs. Smile more often, find things to laugh and play.

Balance comes from simply finding out what’s most important in life and making it a priority. Throw out all the old rules and start making up some of your own so you can live an even happier life now.

Hand Me Down Beliefs

Adults have been passing down beliefs and lessons for generations, these hand me downs have proven over the years to be good and bad at times. Did you ever wonder who started them? Who created the benchmarks for what is right and wrong? Who decided for us how we should look or act? We have been wearing the values and beliefs of generations and never stopped to ask ourselves if what worked for them in the earlier years still applies to us today. It was as if we were given hand me downs not only in the way of clothes but in everything in life. We were handed our parents, grandparents and great grandparents dreams and fears. Their expectations of the world and at some point in most of our lives we realize we are not living up to what we thought we were supposed to do or be and therefore we are not enough.

Did you ever step back and ponder or did you just fall into despair and accept failure in not measuring up to others expectations of you. Did you fight and excel despite it all? What is your story?

I remember growing up wanting to be a teacher. My parents told me they didn’t make enough money so I can’t be a teacher. Then I said I want to be a lawyer. My dad said “NO” and told me I was going to college for my MRS. degree. I got that twice. Not knowing too many options to choose from at that age, out of the blue I said, ok I’ll be an accountant like my brother, Bruce. I went to college studying accounting and hated every minute of it. I got my associates degree in accounting and took all my electives in business law and psychology where my true passions lied.  I changed my major to marketing advertising and minored in computers, no one balked at that choice and that is what I got my bachelors degree in college. I continued my same electives as I did prior years for I still was drawn to helping and understanding people. I spent the better part of my life doing what I thought others wanted me to do instead of what I wanted to do and loved.  Even after graduating I continued my education and became a perpetual student looking for the answers to what would make me happy and feel fulfilled and have been studying human psychology for decades now.

Today I am a teacher. Not in the conventional terms in an institution, but in life. I have spent the last twenty years teaching others how to do what I have already figured out. How to be successful following their purpose and loving who you are in the process. How amazing is that. I am not teaching children, as I thought I would be, but adults to be what they want to be. Think about the choices you made in your life and on what premise they were decided. You see I never wanted to be an accountant, a lawyer, a marketer or advertiser. I wanted to be a teacher and I am! By the way, teachers make a lot of money!
